Internal Link

Internal link — a link from one page to another within the same domain; it manages site architecture, authority flow, and user navigation.

Internal Link (Internal Link) is a link from one page to another within the same domain. It is one of the most underrated yet most powerful tools in SEO.

Functions of internal links:

  • They explain the site architecture and content hierarchy to search engines
  • They distribute page authority (PageRank) throughout the site
  • They speed up the indexing of new or deep pages
  • They increase session duration by directing users to related content
  • They reinforce the topic of the target page through anchor text

A good internal linking strategy:

  • Give important pages many internal links (the cornerstone content approach)
  • Diversify anchor text and use it naturally
  • Link from new content to older authoritative content (and vice versa)
  • Check broken internal links regularly
  • Work with the topic cluster model: pillar page + related cluster pages

Tip: In the “Links > Internal links” report in Search Console, you can see which pages receive the most internal links. This list is an important clue as to which pages Google sees as “important” on your site.
