Rich Snippet

A results display in search results that includes enhanced elements such as stars, price, and images, beyond the classic blue title+green URL+gray description layout.

Rich Snippet (Rich Result) is an enhanced search result format that goes beyond the standard blue title + URL + gray description display in search results by including additional visual and text elements. It is triggered by Structured Data (schema markup).

Common rich snippet types:

  • Star rating (Review snippet): The average star rating derived from product or business reviews.
  • Recipe: Image, prep time, calories, number of votes.
  • FAQ: An expandable question-and-answer list below the result.
  • Product: Price, stock status, variant information.
  • Event: Date, venue, ticket link.
  • Video: Preview thumbnail, duration, publication date.
  • How-to: Step-by-step numbered list.
  • Job (Job posting): Company, location, employment type.

Effects of rich snippets:

  • Can increase CTR by up to 30%
  • Takes up more space in the SERP (the visual stands out)
  • Improves the perception of brand credibility

Tip: Even if you add Structured Data correctly, Google is not required to show a rich snippet. The algorithmic decision may take time; continue consistently providing accurate data and monitor the Search Console “Enhancements” reports.
